Myrtales je red cvjetnica iz razreda Magnoliopsida, divizija Tracheophyta, carstvo Plantae.^[1] Klasificiran je kao sestrinski kladusa euroside II, kako je objavljeno u opisu genoma Eucalyptus grandis, juna 2014.^[2]

APG III sistem klasifikacije za angiosperme i dalje ga svrstava u euroside. Ovaj nalaz potkrepljuje postavljanje Myrtalesa u malvidni kladus, prema Inicijativi biljnog transkriptoma hiljade biljaka.^[3] The following families are included as of APG III:^[4]

Cronquistov sistem daje u biti isti sastav, osim što su Vochysiaceae uklonjene u red Polygalales, a uključene su Thymelaeaceae. Porodice Sonneratiaceae, Trapaceae i Punicaceae uklanjaju se iz Lythraceae. U sistemu klasifikacije po Dahlgrenu, Myrtales su bile u nadredu Myrtiflorae (koji se naziva i Myrtanae). Sistem APG III slaže se sa starijim Cronquistovim obuhvatima Psiloxylaceae i Heteropyxidaceae unutar Myrtaceae i Memecyclaceae unutar Melastomataceae.

Postoje izvještaji o prisustvu elagitanina u dikotiledonskim angiospermama, a osobito kod vrsta reda Myrtales.^[5]
